ICYMI: Trump Unveils New Plan to Gut Benefits and Raise Costs for Hundreds of Thousands of Poor, Disabled Americans Arrow

After passing a historically unpopular law to give tax breaks to billionaires by raising costs on working families, the Trump administration is doubling down on its cruelty with new plans to take away disability benefits from hundreds of thousands of Americans.

Key Point: "Hundreds of thousands of poor Americans are poised to get their disability benefits cut, as the Trump administration moves to reverse a Biden-era change. Why it matters: It would hurt low-income and disabled Americans at a time when inflation is driving up the cost of food and shelter; and further cuts to Medicaid and food benefits are on tap."

In response, DNC Chair Ken Martin released the following statement:

"Trump promised to lower costs on Day One. Instead, he has raised costs, gutted health care, and made life more difficult for countless families. As if kicking millions off Medicaid and food assistance wasn't cruel enough, now Trump is implementing plans to gut or take away disability resources from hundreds of thousands of Americans. While Trump and Republicans continue to betray the American people with their billionaire-first agenda, Democrats have real plans to lower costs, and we will continue fighting to actually deliver for working families."

Don't forget: This is all part of a concerted effort by the Trump administration to take from the poor to give to the rich. As highlighted by Axios' reporting: "The rule change is just one of the ways the White House is moving to cut back help for low-income Americans - the big, beautiful bill recently passed by Congress included cuts to SNAP and Medicaid that will also hurt."
