Third Phase of Hydrant Testing to Begin in Joliet on August 24

JOLIET, Ill. - The Joliet Fire Department will begin Phase III of its annual hydrant testing program on Monday, August 24, 2026.

Testing will be conducted Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is expected to continue for approximately four weeks, depending on weather conditions and emergency call volume.

During Phase III, hydrant testing will take place in the following areas of the City:

Station #9 (2300 Michas Drive):

  • The geographical area bounded by Bazz Dr to the North, Bronk Rd to the East, I-80 to the South, and County Line Rd to the West

Station #10 (1599 John D Paige Drive):

  • The geographical area bounded by Walker Rd to the North, EJ&E Railroad to the East, Jones Rd to the South, and Arbeiter Rd to the West.

The Fire Department will take precautions to minimize the impact of temporary rusty or discolored water that may occur during hydrant testing.

If rust staining occurs on clothing, the City of Joliet provides a rust-removal treatment that can be used during the washing process. Do not place affected clothing in the dryer until it has been properly rewashed and rinsed using the treatment, as drying may set the stain permanently.

The rust-removal treatment is available at any Joliet Fire Station. Residents who are unable to pick up the product may contact the Water Department at (815) 724-4220 or the Joliet Fire Department at (815) 724-3500 for assistance.
