After nearly three decades of serving the Macon-Bibb community, Macon Housing Authority CEO Mike Austin is being recognized for his leadership and dedication to providing affordable housing opportunities for local families.
On Thursday, October 8, Mayor Lester Miller officially proclaimed the day as "Mike Austin Day" in Macon-Bibb County, honoring Austin's years of service and the lasting impact he has made on the community.
Throughout his career, Austin has helped guide the Macon Housing Authority through significant growth and change, overseeing hundreds of millions of dollars in housing and community investments. Under his leadership, the Authority has expanded access to quality, affordable housing and earned national recognition for its innovation and responsible management.
The Macon Housing Authority has repeatedly received the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) designation as a "High Performer." It also became one of the first public housing authorities in the country to complete a Rental Assistance Demonstration conversion, an achievement recognized by HUD.
But Austin's impact goes far beyond housing developments and investments. His work has helped provide thousands of individuals and families with something even more important: a safe, stable place to call home.
"Mike Austin has dedicated his career to making sure more families in our community have access to safe, affordable housing," said Mayor Miller. "His leadership has helped transform neighborhoods, create opportunities, and improve lives. We're grateful for his decades of service and proud to recognize everything he's done for Macon-Bibb County."
The proclamation also recognizes Austin's integrity, work ethic, and commitment to the people served by the Macon Housing Authority, as well as the respect he has earned from colleagues, community partners, and the Authority's Board of Commissioners.
Congratulations to Mike Austin, and thank you for nearly 30 years of service to Macon-Bibb County!
