SGMC Health Celebrates Babies Born Christmas Week

SGMC Health is spreading holiday cheer to its tiniest patients this Christmas week with a beloved tradition that has warmed hearts for decades. Every newborn delivered during the festive season will be welcomed with a handmade stocking and a crocheted Santa hat, lovingly crafted by members of the SGMC Health Volunteer Auxiliary.

"Creating these stockings and hats is our way of sharing joy and making families feel special during such an important moment in their lives," said Diane Belcher, a longtime Volunteer Auxiliary member. "It's a tradition we cherish, and we hope these keepsakes become treasured memories for years to come."

Each year, SGMC Health delivers approximately 2,000 babies, offering a unique birthing experience through its full-service maternity center. It features experienced staff trained to take care of mothers and babies before, during, and after delivery. SGMC Health offers 24-hour obstetrician, anesthesiology, and neonatology coverage, a lactation consultant, a dedicated nursing team, and a certified car seat safety technician. The health system also offers monthly parenting classes for epidurals, breastfeeding, and childbirth.

Looking ahead, SGMC Health is investing in the future of maternal and infant care with the ongoing construction of its Women & Infants Tower and Emergency Department, slated to be completed in late 2026. At the heart of this $150 million expansion is the Women and Infants Center, designed to deliver specialized prenatal, neonatal, and postnatal care in a state-of-the-art environment. This commitment underscores SGMC Health's mission to provide extraordinary care for mothers and newborns, ensuring families across the region have access to world-class facilities for generations to come.
