No-Cost Collection Available for Storm-Damaged Bulky Items through October 5

The City of Cedar Rapids is offering temporary, no-cost collection of water-damaged household items for residents affected by the recent heavy rains. This service is available through October 5, 2026.

This special collection is for Cedar Rapids residents who already receive City Solid Waste and Recycling curbside service. Items may include carpet, flooring, furniture, and other large household materials that were damaged by storm water.

Residents must call 319-286-5897 to schedule a pickup. When calling, please provide a list of the items you want collected. Collections must be scheduled at least 24 hours before the pickup date. Do not place items at the curb until your pickup is scheduled.

This no-cost service is only for household materials damaged by the recent storms. It is not a general free bulky item program. If items do not appear to be storm-related, staff will contact you to discuss normal collection fees.

City crews cannot enter private property, including private drives in homeowners' associations. Items must be placed in the public right-of-way after your appointment is confirmed.

Other Disposal Options

This service does not include non-organic storm debris, such as siding, shingles, or fence pieces.

Tree debris and yard waste can be placed in a YARDY cart or taken to the Cedar Rapids Linn County Solid Waste Agency Compost and Yard Waste site at 2250 A Street SW, Cedar Rapids. More information is available at: SolidWasteAgency.org/Compost-Yard-Waste/Cost-Location.
