Rep. Devan Seabaugh Issues Statement on Passing of U.S. Congressman David Scott

ATLANTA - State Representative Devan Seabaugh (R-Marietta), a Floor Leader for Governor Brian Kemp, today issues the following statement on the recent passing of U.S. Congressman David Scott (D-GA):

"Beth and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Congressman David Scott. We extend our heartfelt prayers and sincere condolences to his family, friends, staff and to all those who had the privilege of working alongside him. Congressman Scott began his political journey in the Georgia House of Representatives in 1975, where he served until being elected to the Georgia Senate in 1983 and then to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2003, where he served until his passing-a career serving our community for more than 50 years in elected office. In times like this, we are reminded that public service is ultimately about people, relationships and a shared commitment to making our communities better.

"During his tenure in Congress, he achieved several historic milestones and led on issues that affected communities across Georgia and the country. He served as chairman of the U.S. House Agriculture Committee overseeing federal policy related to agriculture, nutrition, rural development and food security, helping to shape national policy impacting farmers, families and rural communities. He was also recognized for his advocacy on behalf of veterans and for his willingness to work across party lines to improve accountability and services within the Department of Veterans Affairs. Throughout his career, he focused on initiatives that supported job creation, healthcare access, education and financial literacy for working families.

"Congressman Scott dedicated his life to public service and to the people of Georgia. For decades, he worked to strengthen our communities, support working families and ensure the voices of his constituents were heard in Washington, D.C. His commitment to service and his steady presence in public life earned the respect of colleagues on both sides of the aisle. On a personal note, he always made time to visit with my family and me during our trips to our nation's capital.

"Beth and I honor his legacy of service to Georgia and join many across our state in mourning his loss. May God bring comfort and peace to his loved ones in the days ahead."

Representative Devan Seabaugh represents the citizens of District 34, which includes a portion of Cobb County. He was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2021 and currently serves as a Governor's Floor Leader. He currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Creative Arts & Entertainment Committee, the Industry and Labor Committee and the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health, and also serves on the Energy, Utilities & Telecommunications, Public and Community Health, and Transportation committees.
