June 26, 2026 - Production has begun on a new three-episode installment of The Monster of Florence story, a miniseries directed by Stefano Sollima, created by Leonardo Fasoli and Stefano Sollima, produced by Wildside, a Fremantle company, and AlterEgo production, produced by Sonia Rovai, Gina Gardini, Stefano Sollima and Lorenzo Mieli. A new chapter in Italy's most famous true crime case, the series will revisit the Monster of Florence investigation through a new lens, coming soon, only on Netflix globally.
This new chapter expands the narrative surrounding the Monster of Florence case by focusing on the "Snack Buddies" lead and, in particular, on the figure of Pietro Pacciani, the alleged Monster of Florence and the primary suspect in the investigation into the eight double murders that gripped Italy in terror between 1968 and 1985. A figure as scrutinized by the media as he was shrouded in mystery, Pacciani was at the center of a marathon trial filled with unexpected twists and turns.
" We always imagined The Monster of Florence as an anthology series: standalone stories, each dedicated to one of the different suspects in the series of crimes that shocked Tuscany and Italy between the 1970s and 1980s, in what has gone down in history as the 'Monster of Florence' murders. An investigation that lasted over 30 years ," said Stefano Sollima. " After focusing on the Sardinian suspects, this time we leap forward in time to address perhaps the most well-known, controversial, and debated chapter of the entire incident: the story of Pietro Pacciani, convicted and later acquitted of the crimes, and his alleged accomplices, the infamous 'Snack Buddies,' as the press dubbed them. A court case that divided Italian public opinion for decades. Perhaps this is also why Pacciani's case remains the most disturbing: guilt has never been proven, but also never completely ruled out. "
This new three-episode installment follows the success of the first chapter The Monster of Florence , which premiered out of competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, won the Nastro d'Argento Grandi Serie Award for Best Crime Series, and became Netflix's most-watched series globally during its first week of release . The first chapter explored the initial line of inquiry, known as the "Sardinian lead," in what remains one of the longest-running and most controversial criminal investigations in Italian history.
