Cook Street closure in Madison County

GODFREY - The Illinois Department of Transportation today announced the closure of Cook Street between Greenwood Lane and Pierce Lane beginning Monday, June 22, weather permitting, for road reconstruction.

During the closure, access to properties within the work zone will be maintained via Illinois 3 using the newly constructed section of Cook Street. The west portion of Cook Street will be closed to traffic.

This portion of work is expected to be completed by mid-August.

This work is part of a $10.5 million project that will construct a dual roundabout connecting Illinois 3, West Delmar and Pierce Lane. Roundabout construction is anticipated to begin in August. Advance notice will be provided as traffic impacts and construction details are confirmed.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, obey all construction signage, and refrain from using mobile devices while approaching and traveling through the work zone and detour route.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
