Olympus Introduces CADDIETM PLUS, Expanding AI Support Across the Colonoscopy Procedure

Finding precancerous lesions during colonoscopy and determining appropriate follow-up are central to colorectal cancer prevention. CADDIE PLUS builds on the OLYSENSE CAD/AI solution CADDIE, whose detection performance was demonstrated in the EAGLE randomized controlled trial: compared with standard colonoscopy, CADDIE increased the number of sessile serrated lesions detected per colonoscopy by 230 %, large adenomas greater than 10 mm detected per colonoscopy by 93 %, and absolute adenoma detection rate by 7.3 percentage points (43.2 % versus 35.9 %).2

"Colorectal cancer prevention starts with high-quality colonoscopy and the ability to detect and appropriately assess precancerous lesions," said Miquel Àngel García, Executive Vice President & General Manager Gastrointestinal, Olympus Corporation. "CADDIE PLUS builds on the clinical capabilities of CADDIE by providing additional information during the procedure, while extending the role of OLYSENSE in supporting quality and consistency across the colonoscopy pathway."

New capabilities during and after the procedure

CADDIE PLUS retains CADDIE's detection and characterization capabilities and adds two new intraprocedural capabilities: Polyp size classification indicates whether a detected polyp is below or above the clinically relevant 10 mm threshold, providing additional information to support assessment and management. Live Net Withdrawal Time displays live and net withdrawal time during the procedure to support adherence to established European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) quality standards. Withdrawal time is an established colonoscopy quality measure; ESGE recommends a minimum mean withdrawal time of six minutes, because a careful, unhurried withdrawal is linked to higher adenoma detection.3

Following the procedure, associated Computer-Aided Metrics (CAMs), a separate, standalone non-medical post-procedure software, automatically presents seven important procedure metrics, including total endoscope time, gross and net withdrawal time, cleaning and therapy time, and confirmation of caecum and retroflexion documentation. The metrics are generated without requiring additional steps from the care team.

"Finding the lesions that matter, and knowing their size, shapes what happens next for each patient, including when they need to return for surveillance," said Dr Edward Seward, University College London Hospital. "Seeing polyp size and withdrawal time during the procedure helps us consistently meet the quality standards that matter most for our patients."

Advancing intelligent endoscopy through AI

The European launch of CADDIE PLUS at UEG Week 2026 marks another step in Olympus' broader ambition to deliver continuous innovation through the OLYSENSE Platform. The platform's cloud-enabled architecture is designed to support connectivity, intelligence and scalability as additional capabilities become available. The OLYSENSE AI solutions operate within an ISO/IEC 27001-certified Information Security Management System (ISMS), providing hospital IT teams with independent assurance that information security is managed according to internationally recognized standards.

"AI is revolutionizing every industry, unlocking human potential and empowering us for a better future. Olympus equipment is used to treat millions of patients each year and OLYSENSE is a paradigm shift in the way doctors access AI and enhance patient care," said Peter Mountney, Global VP of Artificial Intelligence, Olympus Corporation.

CADDIE PLUS will be available beginning in November 2026 in 17 European countries* where CADDIE is currently offered. CADDIE PLUS is not available in the United States. Product availability is subject to local regulatory requirements.

Visitors to UEG Week 2026, October 17 to 20 in Barcelona, can experience the solution at the Olympus booth in Hall 7, Booth 53.
