Alexandria Police Investigating Death Following Early Morning Barricade Incident
Alexandria, VA -The Alexandria Police Department is investigating the death of an adult male that occurred during an early morning barricade incident this morning.
At approximately 12:49 a.m., officers responded to an apartment building at 751 Thornton Way for a report involving a man in crisis who was threatening self-harm. Officers established a perimeter and were able to communicate with the individual.
Based on the individual's statements, APD's Crisis Negotiations and Special Operations Teams were activated while efforts to make contact with the man continued. Negotiation efforts were unsuccessful, and the Special Operations Team entered the apartment, where the man was located deceased with an apparent gunshot wound.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
This incident remains under investigation. Additional information will be released as appropriate.
