Courtney Statement on New Navy Contract Award for F/A-XX Program

NORWICH, CT - Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, released the following statement on the Navy's selection of Boeing to construct the new F/A-XX carrier aircraft. The sixth-generation F/A-XX aircraft will serve as the replacement for the Navy's F/A-18s and will serve alongside its growing F-35C fleet.

"The long-overdue final downselect for the F/A-XX program is great news for the U.S. aircraft carrier fleet," Courtney said. "The F/A-XX will serve as a critical platform for the Navy to overcome the tyranny of distance in the Indo-Pacific region, enhancing readiness and deterrence alongside our allies. That is why the House Armed Services Committee and the House Appropriations Committee have consistently directed the Navy to prioritize this program. I look forward to continuing Congress' work with the Navy to ensure the F/A-XX meets the needs of our Navy pilots, sailors, and the carrier fleet."
