The report on the 2025 Global Assessment of the National Statistical System of Tajikistan has been published, giving a comprehensive picture of improvements achieved and areas for further development.
The global assessment was organised by EFTA in cooperation with Eurostat and UNECE at the request of the Agency on Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan and formed part of EFTA's technical cooperation work programme in the field of statistics for 2025. It comprised a thorough analysis of the institutional, technical and organisational capacities of Tajikistan's statistical system to support the production of high-quality and comparable official statistics, which are essential for decision making by policymakers and other key stakeholders.
A team consisting of two experts from Statistics Norway and Statistics Iceland, three from UNECE and one from Eurostat drafted the report following a mission to Tajikistan in May 2025.
The report highlights several positive developments in Tajikistan's statistical system thanks to efforts made to improve the statistical infrastructure, strengthen international cooperation and data collection, adapt statistical data to international standards and transition from paper to electronic reporting, among other areas.
The report also highlights some challenges and areas for improvement. The experts recommend greater flexibility in allocating resources and other measures to achieve efficiencies, as well as steps to modernise statistical production, reflecting on the structure of the agency and increasing its use of administrative and new data sources.
Global assessments and their ensuing recommendations play a vital role in EFTA's technical cooperation work in the field of statistics, helping to strengthen the statistical systems of EFTA's partner countries and support them in developing, producing and disseminating timely, reliable, accurate and comparable official statistics.
