European Commission launches consultation on the future of Europe's drone strategy

The European Commission's Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) has launched a stakeholder consultation to support the Commission's assessment of the implementation of Drone Strategy 2.0 and its continued relevance in light of recent technological, regulatory and market developments.

The Commission is inviting manufacturers, operators, service providers, research organisations, financial institutions, public authorities and industry associations to share their views on the progress made since the strategy was adopted in 2022, identify remaining barriers to deployment, and highlight emerging opportunities across the European drone and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) ecosystem.

Alongside the stakeholder consultation, the Commission has also opened a public survey to gather citizens' views on drones, covering topics such as safety, privacy, environmental impacts and future applications.

The review comes four years after the adoption of the strategy, which set out Europe's ambition to enable large-scale commercial drone operations in areas including emergency response, infrastructure inspection, environmental monitoring, surveying and mapping, and the delivery of time-critical goods such as medical supplies.

The SESAR Joint Undertaking encourages its stakeholders to participate in the consultation and contribute their expertise to this important review process before the 6 September 2026 deadline.
