FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Open Streets: Midtown Village debuts on Tuesday evenings in June

PHILADELPHIA (May 5, 2026) - Center City District's (CCD) popular Open Streets series continues this summer in Midtown Village, introducing a weekday evening format designed to capture the energy of summer in Center City.

Every Tuesday from June 2 through June 30, Open Streets: Midtown Village will transform five blocks into a fully pedestrianized experience from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., with street closures in effect from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on 13th Street from Chestnut to Walnut, Sansom Street from 12th to Juniper, and Drury Street.

Open Streets: Midtown Village was created to offer Center City residents and workers a new car-free way to unwind after work and enjoy one of Center City's premier dining districts during an event-filled summer.

"We're excited to pilot the first Open Streets evening edition in Midtown Village," CCD President and CEO Prema Katari Gupta said. "Hosting it during the week provides the bustling neighborhood with a break from car traffic and gives our restaurateurs extra space during happy hour and dinner times. We're looking forward to learning how to further tailor this program to the needs of the neighborhood."

The pedestrian-only streets will serve as an extension of public space, with room for expanded al fresco dining and sidewalk retail. Businesses along the route may offer special promotions, in-store entertainment, or exclusive experiences. Food and beverages will be available exclusively from restaurants located along the route.

Visitors can enjoy ambient music, artists, and Double Dutch performances by Philly Girls Jump. CCD will also provide additional seating and activities like ping-pong and miniature golf.

There will be no outside vendors; visitors are encouraged to support the local businesses along the route and in the surrounding neighborhood.

Open Streets: Midtown Village is produced by Center City District with support from the City of Philadelphia and the Midtown Village Merchants Association. Events are weather permitting and subject to change. Select performances are supported by the Music Performance Trust Fund, American Federation of Musicians, and Local 77.
