Yaw, Owlett: $2.4 Million for Northern Tioga School District Athletic Facility Upgrades

HARRISBURG -State Sen. Gene Yaw (R-23) and State Rep. Clint Owlett (R-68) today announced $2,400,000 has been awarded to the Northern Tioga School District for athletic facility upgrades through the state's Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).

"High quality athletic facilities support student success, encourage physical wellness and strengthen community pride while helping districts remain competitive," Yaw said. "This investment will benefit students, families, residents and visitors for years to come and I'm pleased to have worked with Rep. Owlett to secure this funding."

"Athletics are such an important part of our children's educational experience, as it teaches them about the value of hard work, the importance of good sportsmanship and even time management," Owlett said. "I am happy to have worked with Sen. Yaw and our local school district officials to help move this project forward."

Improvements include a new multi-use turf field with sport-specific markings, modern field lighting and a six-lane track surrounding the fields. Security fencing will also be constructed and installed at each high school.

The project also includes the rehabilitation of the tennis courts at Cowanesque Valley High School and a new softball field with fencing, bleachers and a press box at Williamson High School. Additionally, funding will be used to replace deteriorating playing surfaces, install ADA-compliant bleachers, upgrade field lighting to energy-efficient systems and enhance restroom facilities.

"On behalf of the Northern Tioga School District and the Board of School Directors, I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to our local and state representatives," said Superintendent Kristopher Kaufman. "We are grateful for the support and advocacy of Sen. Yaw and Rep. Owlett and their efforts in supporting Northern Tioga School District in securing this RACP. We value their commitment to improving rural Pennsylvania communities. The support and collaboration of our Tioga County Commissioners in pursuing the RACP is valued and demonstrates a commitment to improving all of Tioga County. Northern Tioga School District faces unique challenges being a rural, remote community. This RACP will provide upgrades to our athletic facilities that will benefit not only our students but also the communities served by our schools."

RACP is administered by the Office of the Budget for the acquisition and construction of regional economic, cultural, civic, recreational and historical improvement projects. RACP projects are authorized in the Redevelopment Assistance section of a Capital Budget Itemization Act. They must have a regional or multi-jurisdictional impact and generate substantial increases or maintain current levels of employment, tax revenues or other measures of economic activity.
