ACL is pleased to announce the 2025 award recipients of its Falls Prevention Program. The five grantees include health care systems, public health departments, and a state-level nonprofit organization. They will receive approximately $6.25 million in combined funding to implement evidence-based falls prevention programsin their respective communities. The project period is September 1, 2025, to August 31, 2028.
In the U.S., an estimated one in four older adults falls each year, which can have serious impacts on their health and reduce their ability to remain independent. Many falls are preventable. Evidence-based falls prevention programs have been proven to reduce falls and the fear of falling by targeting known, modifiable risk factors with education, exercise, strength and balance training, and home modification.
The 2025 award recipients are:
Together, these grantees are expected to reach over 15,000 older adults and people with disabilities. Leveraging targeted partnerships, innovative strategies, and a person-centered approach, projects aim to reduce falls and/or fall risk among adults 60 and older who are in the greatest economic and social need (consistent with the Older Americans Act), as well as adults with disabilities.
Grantees will also work to identify ways to sustain their programs beyond the grant and generate tools and insights to share across the aging services network. With these awards, ACL aims to increase knowledge in the field of aging by funding and promoting replicable, statewide, evidence-based falls prevention programs.
