ANCHORAGE - The Alaska Department and Labor and Workforce Development (DOLWD) will host an employment and training information session for persons affected by the devastating storms in Western Alaska. The event will be held at the Egan Center, in Anchorage, on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The event will feature short presentations in English, and translated into Yupik, about immediate employment and training opportunities available in the Anchorage/Mat-Su area.

"Providing every opportunity to train Western Alaska residents with skills to rebuild their communities is a priority for my Administration," said Governor Mike Dunleavy. "We will extend all the resources we can to support residents with employment opportunities, and training programs so that residents can get a good job or, when possible, return to their communities with new skills to support their communities."

Presentations from Northern Industrial Training, the Don Young Alaska Job Corps Center, Alaska Works Partnership, the Alaska Literacy Program (Adult Education), and the Association of Village Council Presidents will give short presentations about trainings that are starting soon, including carpentry, building maintenance, skilled labor, ironwork welding, administrative assistant, among other programs. Information about upcoming recruitments for seafood industry positions will also be available.

  • DOLWD staff from the Division of Employment and Training Services will be on hand to help with applications for available state and federal workforce development grants and provide information about available employment in the area.
  • Employment and Training staff can assist with employment applications, resume writing and interview preparation.
  • Unemployment Insurance staff will also be on hand to support evacuees with their applications.
  • Staff from the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation will be available to talk about supporting persons with disabilities, or seniors who are eligible to enroll in the Mature Alaskans Seeking Skills program.

"Thank you to Alaska's training providers and employers who have jumped in to support Alaskans affected by this disaster," said DOLWD Commissioner Catherine Muñoz. "Together, we're committed to supporting Western Alaska rebuild strong, resilient communities."
