On 18 May in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, met with Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, who visited Lithuania for the first time.
"The first visit by Jordan's Minister of Foreign Affairs marks a historic moment in strengthening ties between our countries and represents an important step toward further bilateral cooperation. Jordan is a key strategic partner of the EU and an active NATO partner, with whom we share a common approach to a rules-based international order and a commitment to strengthening security and stability both in the Middle East and in Europe's neighborhood," said K. Budrys.
During the meeting, the Ministers discussed prospects for developing bilateral political and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Jordan and exchanged views on current geopolitical challenges facing Europe and the Middle East. The participants of the meeting also expressed a mutual wish to revive political dialogue through the organisation of the first political consultations between the countries in the near future.
Budrys reiterated Lithuania's solidarity with Jordan over Iran's attacks on its territory during the regional military escalation. The Minister also underlined that Russia's aggression against Ukraine poses a threat to global security and the rules-based international order, thanked Jordan for its principled position at the United Nations, and called for continued support to international efforts for the return of unlawfully deported Ukrainian children by Russia.
