Reps. Goldman and Veasey Introduce Bill Honoring Texas Trailblazer and Fmr. U.S. Rep. Kay Granger

WASHINGTON, DC - Reps. Craig Goldman (R-TX-12) and Marc Veasey (D-TX-33) have introduced the Kay Granger Memorial Resolution, recognizing the remarkable life and career of former U.S. Congresswoman Kay Granger.

"Kay Granger was truly a Texas legend. She was incredibly well respected by her colleagues and our nation's leaders. She worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those she represented and did a tremendous job helping grow Fort Worth into the city it is today," said Congressman Craig Goldman. "I am proud to join Rep. Marc Veasey and the entire Texas Delegation in recognizing her leadership and service to Fort Worth, Texas, and the United States."

"Congresswoman Kay Granger was a trailblazer for Texas and for women in public service - the first woman elected mayor of Fort Worth, the first Republican to represent Texas in Congress, and the first woman of her party to chair the House Appropriations Committee," said Congressman Marc Veasey. "Kay was a fierce advocate for Fort Worth. Though we sat on different sides of the aisle, Kay and I shared a commitment to always place our community first."

Background:

Former Rep. Kay Granger served the city of Fort Worth at the local, state, and national level for over three decades. Among her many accomplishments, Ms. Granger was the:

  • First woman elected as mayor of Fort Worth.
  • First Republican woman from Texas elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
  • First woman to chair the House Appropriations Defense Subcommittee.
  • First Republican woman to chair the House Appropriations Committee.

Ms. Granger also co-chaired the Iraqi Women's Caucus, the Women Impacting the Nation coalition, and co-founded the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Caucus.
