Dressed for Success: Bowie Business Boutique Receives Largest Professional Clothing Gift Ever

Just in time for the Spring 2026 Career Fair, more than 400 items of stylish professional clothing arrived at the Bowie Business Boutique. The donation - the largest in the boutique's history - included men's and women's business suits, neckties, footwear and accessories that students tried on at the Engage Center for Experiential Learning & Career Readiness as they confidently prepared to meet prospective employers and explore career opportunities.

The significant addition to the no-cost, one-stop shop on the third floor of the Student Center resulted from the collective support of several organizations, including The Links, Incorporated and 100 Black Men of America, Inc.

JaNay Adams is the manager of the Bowie Business Boutique Program, and she highlighted how the meaningful contribution is a direct investment in students' future.

"We deeply value our community partners, whose ongoing commitment makes a lasting impact and expands job prospects. Our mission to remove barriers to career readiness directly supports the University's priorities to align academic and experiential opportunities with Maryland's and the region's workforce needs."

Notably, four Maryland-based Links chapters - Prince George's County, Mt. Rose, Willow Oaks and Southern Maryland Chain - led the effort. The clothing collection was inspired by a conversation between Bowie State University President Aminta H. Breaux and Dawn Collins, founder and president of the Lieutenant Richard W. Collins III Foundation.

Dr. Jared Moffett, executive director of Career and Experiential Education at The Engage Center for Experiential Learning & Career Readiness, said the donation exemplifies the university's commitment to student success, helping Bulldogs put their best foot forward as they prepare to enter the workforce.

"Wardrobe plays a vital role in empowering college students to navigate the professional world with poise and confidence. Partnerships with regional organizations bring our mission to life by expanding access to key resources like professional attire. Quality professional clothing is a tangible way we help connect students to meaningful opportunities that build confidence and support their long-term success."

The Engage Center for Experiential Learning & Career Readiness plays a critical role in preparing students for life after graduation by integrating experiential learning opportunities, career readiness resources and employer partnerships. Through jobs, internships, service learning and workforce engagement, the Center ensures that Bowie State graduates are equipped with the skills and experiences necessary to thrive in today's competitive job market.
