Bahrain Country Program

The Bahrain-World Bank partnership began in 1984. The World Bank does not have a physical presence in Bahrain. As of January 2024, the World Bank's operations in Bahrain are covered by the Abu Dhabi Country Office. The World Bank's program in Bahrain focuses on supporting Bahrain's long-term strategy through advisory and technical expertise, knowledge partnerships, and capacity building. In the last 40 years, the World Bank has worked with the Bahrain government on a broad range of technical topics to support the government's policy objectives, including fiscal management, debt markets development, skills development, insurance regulation, social safety nets, health insurance, and air transport. A strong focus on knowledge partnerships has further strengthened the collaboration between Bahrain and the World Bank and includes joint initiatives on health financing, women's empowerment, and social protection. The World Bank has also supported the authorities with capacity building through training and courses in behavioral science, climate, health, digitization, social safety nets, and education.
