Exporters of U.S. beef, pork and lamb met face-to-face with buyers from across Mexico last week at the U.S. Meat Export Federation's second U.S. Red Meat Symposium in Mexico City. One of those exporters was Mark Spengler of Greater Omaha Packing Company, who returned after attending the first USMEF Symposium two years ago. He says the event is of high value for his company because it allows a small company to develop personal relationships with buyers across Mexico with just a two-day visit.

The USMEF Symposium was made possible through the support of USDA, the Beef Checkoff Program, the National Pork Board and the Nebraska Beef Council. Producers and other industry leaders traveled to Mexico City to interact with the buyers and to see firsthand USMEF's marketing efforts in the market. Jess Stevens, a National Pork Board member from Ohio, was pleased to see strong demand for variety meats in Mexico, with some bodega owners asking directly for more access to U.S. pork offal.

A list of producers and other industry leaders who attended the event is available here.
