Piracy Risk and Suez Canal Surcharges - Trade from Asia to Mediterranean (inc. West Med, East Med, Adriatic and North Africa) and Black Sea Regions

The security situation and piracy risk around the Arabian Peninsula is affecting vessel operations and transit routes, causing disruption throughout our network.

As communicated in our announcements of 03 September and on 30 September 2026, MSC previously applied the Piracy Risk Surcharge (PRS) and the Suez Canal Surcharge (SCS) to all cargo moving from Asia to selected ports in the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions. As these disruptions are now affecting services more widely, MSC will extend both surcharges to cover all ports in the Mediterranean (including West Med, East Med, Adriatic and North Africa) and Black Sea regions.

The application of the PRS and SCS to remaining ports will take effect from 15 November 2026 (proforma date) until further notice, and the surcharges will apply as follows:

o A Piracy Risk Surcharge (PRS) of USD 55 per TEU
o A Suez Canal Surcharge (SCS) of USD 36 per TEU
