Open Houses scheduled, public comment period open for the Norman Development Code Assessment

As part of the City of Norman's Development Code Update, the community is invited to review and make comments on a Development Code Assessment through 11:59 PM October 16, 2026. Additionally, community members can attend one of two Open House events on October 7 to learn more:

• 11:30 AM to 1 PM | Conference Room A of the Development Center, 225 N. Webster
• 5:30 to 7 PM | Conference Room A of the Development Center, 225 N. Webster

"The Norman Development Code Assessment is an early step in the City's Development Code update," said Lora Hoggatt, Planning Services Manager for the City of Norman. "It identifies key areas where the current zoning and subdivision regulations could be improved and outlines potential approaches that will guide the upcoming drafting process. The Assessment is based on review of the current Development Codes, AIM Norman, and related plans and policies."

Zoning and subdivision regulations outline a community's land use, development and property rules to ensure responsible growth, necessary public safety and general compliance with planning goals.

Goals for the Development Code Update include: Implementing of the AIM Norman Comprehensive Plan through updated regulations; simplifying and modernizing of the Development Code for clarity and predictability; updating of the zoning map to align with adopted land use priorities; and supporting affordable housing, economic development and multimodal connectivity. The project will also include a companion Parking Study that will use local data to evaluate how parking is used across Norman and recommend updated parking standards. This is a long-term project that is expected to be completed at the end of 2027. Updates will be made to the community regarding its progress at Normanok.gov.
