Alfred University’s McMahan and Tsai honored for project management work

On Oct. 21, the Rochester Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI) held its annual Professional Development Day. During this event, the organization recognized winners of the 2025 professional awards for outstanding project professionals in the Greater Rochester area. Among the honorees were two staff members from Alfred University.

Amanda McMahan, facilities project manager at Alfred University, was presented with the 2025 "Social Good Project of the Year Award." McMahan was honored for assisting the Alfred 21^st Century Group in the development of the Unidentified Floating Object (UFO) Regatta, a community-building event benefiting the Alfred area.

For the UFO Regatta, held July 26, area residents were invited to build do-it-yourself floating crafts which were entered into a race on Foster Lake.

Evan Tsai, project manager for Business and Finance at Alfred University, has been recognized for his leadership in project management at both Alfred University and the PMI Rochester chapter. Tsai was presented with the 2025 "Young Project Manager of the Year Award".

Tsai has played a key role in successfully advancing projects for Alfred University. His projects have included managing a bond rating presentation that resulted in a BBB+ investment grade rating, successfully implementing a new strategic planning software, and launching new employee engagement initiatives.

He also plays an active role in bringing project management education to the local community. He serves as the Director of Outreach for the PMI Rochester Chapter and has helped lead events for college students, including a college project management training program and local networking opportunities.
