Distinguished guests;
Ladies and gentlemen:
Good evening!
I would like to start by thanking the Ministry of Economic Affairs and TAITRA for inviting me to join you all for this wonderful Taiwan Night event. I hope you all enjoyed a productive day at the Taiwan Expo, which aims to foster deeper partnerships with Europe and showcase Taiwan's technological strengths. As you will see, Taiwan is far more than a leading producer of semiconductors and artificial intelligence servers; it is also home to a rich social fabric where deep-rooted traditions, diverse heritages, and modern innovation intertwine.
Cultural narratives have the power to transcend linguistic and political barriers, bringing people closer and paving the way for a brighter tomorrow. This is the spirit of the 2026 edition of the Taiwan Culture in Europe initiative, themed "Connecting Culture, Inspiring Future." Building on the tremendous success of last year's inaugural event, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is proud to continue sharing Taiwan's stories with European friends through music and the arts.
A highlight of this year's program is the Taiyang Theater Company's groundbreaking puppet opera entitled Once Upon a Time in Taiwan. It brings Taiwan's vibrant history to life on stage, depicting the multiethnic tapestry of our society in the 1600s. Over the centuries, openness and diversity have continued to define Taiwan, transforming it into the democratic, resilient, and inclusive country we know today.
Moving forward, let us work to foster greater understanding between Taiwan and Europe through technology and cultural exchanges such as this. Please enjoy the show. Thank you!
