Associate Professor Kyle Boggs from the Department of Humanities and Cultural Studies was invited to give two public talks in Flagstaff, Arizona early in April 2026. The talks centered on his recent book, "Recreational Colonialism and the Rhetorical Landscapes of the Outdoors."
Boggs's book explores the the struggle between Indigenous peoples with connections to particular outdoor sites across the United States and settlers who use those same sites for recreation. The book features a case study highly relevant to the Flagstaff area, following the development of a ski resort on a north Arizona mountain sacred to at least thirteen Indigenous tribes.
