"Small businesses are the backbone of the South, and right now, they are growing because Republicans delivered real relief," Chairwoman McClain said. "During National Small Business Week, we are celebrating the job creators who took that relief and turned it into new equipment, new locations, and bigger paychecks. The Working Families Tax Cuts put money back where it belongs - in the hands of the people who are building this economy. Democrats voted against it. Small businesses are proving why that was the wrong call."
"As Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, it is an honor to celebrate National Small Business Week and the entrepreneurs who power our economy," Chairman Roger Williams said. "Under President Trump, we have delivered real results for Main Street - from the Working Families Tax Cuts that put permanent money back in the pockets of hard-working Americans, to an economy where small businesses are hiring, growing, and thriving. On Committee, we celebrate our hard-working job creators every day and will continue to put forth pro-business, pro-growth legislation to help Main Street thrive."
Small business owners across the Southern United States shared how they are already seeing the impact.
Marcy Rodriguez, Comal Iron and Metals - New Braunfels, Texas
"We are a third-generation metal recycling center. This year will be 57 years, and we have 20-ish employees. The 20% small business deduction has been actually key for us … If it had expired, I honestly don't know what this year would look like. I don't know if we could continue to keep our word to our guys about their raises. … it's the one constant we can at least look at for the end of the year. To our legislators, thank you. Thank you for looking out for the small guys … Now we have a little bit of cushion."
Patricia, Jones Contractors, Inc. - Tennessee
"New equipment to replace older equipment needing multiple repairs is a constant balancing of older assets. Repairs are a large line-item expense for construction companies. Equipment breakdowns can be a major factor in profitability on a job. Also, benefits in a wage-competitive business are always a concern of employees or potential new hires. The 20% small business deduction has helped with the rising cost of health care premiums."
Jose Cancio, C&C Concrete Plumbing - Florida
Jose Cancio said the tax cuts allowed his business to purchase more than $2 million in new equipment - investments that would not have happened otherwise - while also delivering benefits that, in his words, "help everyone."
Jenna Aronowitz, owner of 1920 Tavern - Roswell, Georgia
Jenna Aronowitz said tax savings allowed her to invest directly back into her business - purchasing new equipment, upgrading flooring, and installing custom tabletops made by a local craftsman - while also hiring additional staff and providing raises to longtime employees.
Carlos Gazitua, owner of Sergio's Restaurants - South Florida
Carlos Gazitua said the tax cuts helped him open two new restaurant locations and hire approximately 100 new employees. He also noted that the No Tax on Tips provision has made it easier to recruit and retain qualified workers.
Bill Mathis, Caribou Coffee and Subway franchisor - Florida
Bill Mathis said Republican tax relief has given him the confidence to expand, with plans underway to open his fifth Caribou Coffee location in the St. Petersburg and Clearwater area.
