British Marine Inland Association members gather for insightful event at E.P. Barrus

12 March 2026

Members of the British Marine Inland Association came together on Wednesday 4 March for a highly engaging and productive member event hosted at the headquarters of E.P. Barrus Ltd.

Bringing together committee members and the wider membership, the day offered a valuable combination of industry discussion, networking opportunities and a behind-the-scenes look at one of the UK marine sector's most respected engineering companies.

Productive Committee Discussions

The morning began with the Inland Association committee meeting, where members explored a range of important topics affecting the inland marine sector. The session proved both productive and insightful, providing a forum for open discussion and collaboration between industry professionals.

Committee members shared updates from several key sub-groups, including the Boatbuilding & Technical group and the Brokers group. These updates highlighted ongoing work being carried out on behalf of the sector, from technical guidance and regulatory considerations to improving best practice and supporting members operating within brokerage and boat sales.

The discussions also provided an opportunity to exchange industry insight and reflect on current challenges and opportunities across the inland waterways sector. Looking ahead, the committee considered future priorities for the association, identifying areas where further support, engagement and representation could benefit members and the wider industry.

Networking Over Lunch

Following the morning's discussions, attendees were invited to enjoy a generous lunch hosted by Barrus. The group gathered for an informal networking session, where conversations flowed just as freely as the refreshments.

Guests were treated to a delicious spread of freshly prepared sandwiches, savoury bites and an impressive selection of homemade cakes. The relaxed setting created the perfect environment for members to reconnect with colleagues, share experiences and build new professional relationships. Events such as this continue to play an important role in strengthening the collaborative spirit within the inland marine community.

A Look Inside E.P. Barrus

The afternoon programme began with a short presentation outlining the history and evolution of Barrus. Established more than a century ago, the company has grown into a major force within the marine engineering sector, known for its expertise in engine supply, engineering solutions and technical support.

Following the presentation, attendees were given the opportunity to tour Barrus' impressive facilities at their headquarters. The guided tour offered a fascinating glimpse into the engineering, assembly and operational processes that support the company's marine and industrial product ranges.

For many members, the visit provided a valuable opportunity to better understand the scale and technical capability behind a company that plays such an important role in supporting the UK's inland and leisure marine sectors.

Strengthening Industry Connections

Events such as this underline the value of bringing industry professionals together in person. By combining formal committee discussions with networking opportunities and an engaging host venue, the day provided members with both strategic insight and practical industry engagement.

The British Marine Inland Association extends its sincere thanks to E.P. Barrus Ltd for hosting such a fantastic event and for providing members with a warm welcome and a memorable behind-the-scenes experience.

As the Inland Association continues its work supporting businesses operating across the UK's inland waterways sector, opportunities like this remain invaluable for sharing knowledge, strengthening relationships and shaping the future of the industry together.
