FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Transfort, the public transportation operator for the City of Fort Collins, announced today service reductions beginning Monday, Oct. 13, 2025 due to ongoing budget constraints and staffing limitations.

As the City continues to navigate financial challenges and implement cost saving strategies City-wide, Transfort is adjusting service levels to responsibly match available resources. The City's hiring freeze and overall fiscal outlook have created long-term limitations that affect our ability to maintain the previous scope of service.

"These changes are necessary to align transit service with available resources," Transfort Director Kaley Zeisel said. "We know these decisions have real impacts on people's daily lives, and we remain committed to prioritizing service where it makes the most difference for the community."

Service changes going into effect Oct. 13 include:

  • MAX will operate every 10 minutes from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and every 20 minutes during all other service hours.
  • Route 81 will operate every 60 minutes, reduced from 30-minute frequency. Route 8 will continue to operate on the same loop in the opposite direction every 30 minutes.
  • Route 10 will be suspended.
  • Saturday service on Route 9 will be suspended.

Looking ahead, Transfort is developing an Optimized Service Plan to guide how transit will be delivered in the years ahead. Rather than restoring past service levels, this plan will re-envision what transit can look like within today's realities and future opportunities. Transfort anticipates that full plan being completed in late 2025 or early 2026, with implementation in 2027.

"We want to be honest with our riders: the system will look different moving forward," Zeisel said. "Our goal is to build a transit network that is financially sustainable, dependable and focused on meeting the community's most critical needs. Public input, industry best practices and a careful evaluation of our current system will guide how we shape that future."
