Oneida County Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography

Jeffrey Schreck, age 63, of Utica, New York, pled guilty today to possessing child pornography announced First Assistant United States Attorney John A. Sarcone III and Anthony Patrone, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the Buffalo Field Office of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).

As part of his guilty plea, Schreck admitted that in December of 1997, he was convicted under New York state law of two counts of sodomy in the second degree. The convictions stemmed from Schreck's sexual abuse of an eleven-year-old female child. Schreck also admitted that in February of 2026, he possessed a cell phone and a tablet on which Schreck possessed numerous images and videos of child pornography, including material depicting the sexual abuse of children as young as two years old.

Due to Schreck's prior New York state conviction, at sentencing, Schreck faces a mandatory minimum term of 10 years in federal prison and a statutory maximum of 20 years. Schreck also faces a fine of up to $250,000, and a term of supervised release of at least 5 years and up to life. Schreck will also be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison. A defendant's sentence is imposed by a judge based on the particular statutes the defendant is convicted of violating, the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other factors.

Sentencing is currently scheduled for February 5, 2027, at 11:00 am in Syracuse, New York, before Chief U.S. District Judge, Brenda K. Sannes.

First Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarcone stated, "This defendant's recidivism has landed him back in jail, this time, for 10 to 20 years. Our priority is to find and prosecute anyone who victimizes children whether that be through hands-on abuse or through the trafficking and possession of child pornography. Our children deserve to be protected and we remain dedicated, as do our law enforcement partners, to doing whatever we can to ensure they are."

"This defendant's prior conviction for sexually abusing a child and his subsequent possession of child sexual abuse material demonstrate the ongoing danger posed by repeat offenders," said Acting Special Agent in Charge Anthony Patrone of HSI Buffalo. "HSI Syracuse is committed to holding repeat offenders accountable, protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities, and ensuring that those who exploit children face the full consequences of their actions."

HSI is investigating the case with assistance from the New York State Police. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jessica Carbone and Adrian LaRochelle are prosecuting the case as a part of Project Safe Childhood.

Project Safe Childhood is a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys' Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
