AirBaltic Expands Its Ljubljana Network with New Direct Service to Tenerife

Zgornji Brnik, 23. october 2026 - AirBaltic is expanding its direct flight offering from Ljubljana Airport to the Canary Islands. Following the launch of services to Gran Canaria, passengers will now also be able to travel directly to Tenerife, one of the most popular winter holiday destinations. The new route, established with the support of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, will operate once a week.

Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, attracts visitors year-round with its mild climate, diverse landscapes and rich tourism offering. Its volcanic scenery, well-maintained beaches, wide range of outdoor activities and pleasant temperatures throughout the winter months make it one of Europe's most sought-after destinations for a sunny winter escape.

With the introduction of the new service, airBaltic is further strengthening its presence in the Slovenian market. In addition to its existing route to Gran Canaria and its seasonal summer service to Riga, the airline will now also offer direct flights from Ljubljana to Tenerife. The new connection provides travellers with even more convenient access to the Canary Islands without the need for transfers and further enhances the range of destinations available from Ljubljana Airport.

More than 1.4 million passengers served in the first nine months

Ljubljana Airport enters the winter season following a successful summer period. In the first nine months of 2026, the airport handled 1,426,600 passengers, representing a 15.7% increase compared to the same period last year.

The winter timetable, which will be in effect from 25 October 2026 until the end of March 2027, will offer passengers 22 direct connections operated by 18 airlines. In addition to airBaltic's new Tenerife service, the schedule will also be enhanced by easyJet's new route to London Luton Airport.

The expansion of Ljubljana Airport's route network will continue in the summer 2027 season, with new services planned to Berlin with easyJet and to Brussels and Düsseldorf with TUI. One of the most significant developments next year will also be the planned launch of a direct service between Ljubljana and Newark Liberty International Airport in New York, operated by United Airlines.
