FEMA Assistance Field Teams Meeting Impacted Alaskans Where They Are

FEMA's Assistance Field Teams are visiting impacted communities to support individuals and families who were affected by the severe storms, flooding and remnants of Typhoon Halong that occurred Oct. 8-13.

Teams are registering people impacted by the disaster for FEMA Individual Assistance and answering questions.

"We are going into these impacted communities to make FEMA assistance available to those impacted families to help them continue with their recovery" said Willie Nunn, Federal Coordinating Officer.

Staff board a flight from Bethel to Chefornak to meet with impacted individuals and conduct home inspections.

When a team is in a village, following the registration, FEMA inspectors will meet with the applicant to verify damage(s) to their home and personal property. FEMA staff will always have appropriate federal identification and will never charge for assistance.

If those who have been impacted are unable to meet with the FEMA specialists working in the field, they can also register by calling the dedicated Alaska Call Center at (866) 342-1699, Monday-Sunday from 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. or visiting disasterassistance.gov.
