2026 Mission & Heritage Week

LIVONIA, MICH. - Madonna University began in 1937 with 18 students, all Felician Sisters, taking classes at the Felician Central Convent in Livonia. Since then, Madonna has grown but the mission has remained the same: to instill in its students Christian humanistic values, intellectual inquiry, a respect for diversity, and a commitment to serving others through a liberal arts education paired with career preparation in the Felician Franciscan tradition. This mission rests on four Franciscan values: respect for the dignity of each person, peace and justice, reverence for creation, and education for truth and service.

Each October, Madonna and other Felician-sponsored ministries around the country mark Mission and Heritage Week to celebrate that history. The 2026 theme is "Widening Our Tent for Charism and Mission." The week opens October 3rd with the Transitus of St. Francis and closes October 12th with Mass on the feast of Blessed Mary Angela. In between, there are events happening almost every day, from prayer and a pet blessing to a day of service. The full schedule can be seen below.

  • Thursday, Oct. 8, 9 to 11:30 a.m. Franciscan Symposium on Pope Leo's encyclical Magnifica Humanitas, Welcome Center Great Room (RSVP required)
  • Friday, Oct. 9, 9 a.m. Franciscan Day of Service with UNV 1020 students, Welcome Center Great Room, with film screenings at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon
  • Monday, Oct. 12, noon. Blessed Mary Angela Feast Day Liturgy, MU Chapel
