Spokane- The Spokane City Council is considering changing its Monday legislative sessions. The potential change from Mondays is prompted by numerous cancellations due to federal holidays, stakeholders seeking more time for engagement, and constituents' requests. The council first formally discussed moving the meeting date last year and deferred further discussion to 2025 to allow for community input, aiming to make an informed decision. Part of that process includes a public survey to gauge public sentiment on the issue.
The potential change is within Ordinance C36738. As currently drafted, Ordinance C36738 does not specify the new meeting day, leaving that section blank until further public input.
The survey is open to residents of the City of Spokane, and its purpose is to collect input that captures the community's needs and preferences. The survey closes at midnight on Sunday, September 21, and the results will be presented during the Finance and Administration Committee meeting on September 22, 2025. A first reading of the resolution will occur on October 6, 2025, with a final reading and discussion scheduled for Monday, October 20, during the legislative session. If approved, the change will take effect in August 2026.
