ICYMI: CQ Roll Call Profiles Chairman Scott's Leadership of the Banking Committee

Washington, D.C. - Senate Banking Committee Chairman Tim Scott (R-S.C.) was recently featured in a new CQ Roll Call profile highlighting his lifelong commitment to expanding economic opportunity and financial access for hardworking Americans.

The piece traces Chairman Scott's journey from growing up in North Charleston, South Carolina, to leading the Senate Banking Committee - emphasizing how his personal story shapes his pragmatic, pro-opportunity conservatism and bipartisan leadership style.

Opportunity Agenda:

"As a kid growing up in poverty, my life was shaped by the lack of resources," Scott said. "Scarcity was a daily drum beat in so many ways and, unfortunately, a negative drumbeat."

"When I first became a senator, I created something called the opportunity agenda that focused on things like financial literacy, economic opportunity built on my personal mission statement," said Scott, the only Black Republican senator elected since 1979.

Housing and Financial Access:

The article highlights Chairman Scott's efforts to increase housing supply and affordability, reduce regulatory barriers, and expand access to credit - especially for working families and first-time homebuyers.

"I realized I can have a talking point, or I could have a … legislative product," Scott said of his comprehensive housing bill, which cleared the Banking Committee in July. "I needed to spend more time listening to every single member to find out whether or not there was a sweet spot that could be included."

Digital Assets and Innovation:

Chairman Scott established a subcommittee dedicated to digital assets and co-sponsored the law creating the first U.S. regulatory framework for payment stablecoins.

"The goal is creating greater access points because essential authority has been removed by an open ledger, giving more people real-time access to resources for a significantly lower transaction price point," Scott said. "That's just music to my ears. It's about single moms like the one that raised me, giving her greater access and opportunities in the financial system."

Bipartisan Leadership and Results:

The piece underscores Chairman Scott's collegial approach to legislating, including his collaboration with Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on the ROAD to Housing legislation - which passed the Senate in October - and his commitment to transparency and good faith with colleagues on both sides of the aisle.

"I found that if you're upfront with people, they're typically upfront with you," Scott said. "That has been one of the blessings of the ranking member and my friends on the left. We are just upfront and honest with each other."
