Ramaswamy's Running Mate Ended Medicaid Oversight Committee

A new report from the Associated Press lays out how Vivek Ramaswamy's hand-picked running mate "held key decision-making power over the state budget that last year eliminated Ohio's Joint Medicaid Oversight Committee," which allowed the legislature to monitor how Medicaid dollars were spent in the state.

Republicans have had unified control of Ohio's state government for fifteen years, including sole discretion over how Medicaid dollars were spent. As the AP reports, even Ramaswamy's fellow Republicans have noted that dissolving the committee directly undermined efforts to combat fraud in the state.

Ramaswamy's newfound focus on fraud comes after he has faced widespread backlash for saying that Medicaid and Medicare were "mistakes."

"Once again, Vivek Ramasawmy is showing Ohioans that they can't trust a word he says," said DGA spokesperson Izzi Levy. "Ramaswamy thinks the programs millions of Ohioans rely on to afford health care were a 'mistake' but instead of offering solutions to bring down costs or make Medicaid work better, he tapped a running mate who was responsible for getting rid of the state's Medicaid watchdog. Unfortunately for him, Ohioans see through the scam and aren't buying his latest stunt."
