Automatic Recount of Assembly District 4, Seat G, if Required, Will Be Conducted on Friday, April 24, 2026

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AMC 28.90.025C.1 directs the municipal clerk to initiate a recount within seven days of the certification of the election if the results show that a candidate wins by less than a 0.5% margin. Current unofficial results dated April 14, 2026, show that in the District 4 - Assembly Seat G - Midtown Anchorage race, Janice Park prevails over Dave Donley by a margin of 0.44%. If the results after the Public Session of Canvass show the margin remains less than 0.5%, an automatic recount of the Assembly District 4, Seat G race will take place at the MOA Election Center, 619 E. Ship Creek Avenue, Door D, on Friday, April 24th, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The recount will be open to observation by the public in a manner consistent with the orderly conduct of the recount and security of the ballots. The recount shall be limited to reviewing the electronic version of the ballot images, adjudicating those images, tabulating them, and comparing them to the original results for the District 4 race.

Conducting the recount after the Election Commission's Public Session of Canvass means that all ballots that are not in compliance with the code will have been rejected and the deadline for mailed ballots and cures to be received will have passed, ensuring a fulsome recount. The Public Session of Canvass is scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. A follow-up press release will be sent after the meeting adjourns.

If the recount takes place, there will then be a Special Meeting of the Election Commission on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. to produce a report of the results of the recount for the Assembly. The Assembly will be considering the certification of both the election and the recount at their meeting on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
