Southern Illinois University Edwardsville mourns the passing of Emmanuel Eneyo, PhD, Professor Emeritus in industrial engineering, who died Monday, June 8, 2026.

Eneyo was a long-serving member of the SIUE School of Engineering. He joined SIUE in 1985 as one of just three faculty members to help develop the engineering program at the University. Throughout his career, he contributed to the growth of the School and the Department of Industrial Engineering as a faculty member, mentor and department leader.

"Dr. Eneyo was a long-serving and dedicated member of our School of Engineering community," said Dean Cem Karacal, PhD. "Throughout his career, he made significant contributions as a faculty member and served with distinction as Chair of the Department of Industrial Engineering. He was deeply committed to student success, academic excellence and the advancement of the department and the School."

In addition to his work in engineering education, Eneyo was a founding member of SIUE's Black Faculty and Staff Association. He was remembered by colleagues as a collaborative and committed advocate for inclusion.

"Dr. Eneyo was a very collaborative colleague and friend," said Venessa Brown, PhD, Professor Emerita in the Department of Social Work. "He worked with me and Professor Prince Wells to start BFSA. He was a committed SIUE faculty and advocate for inclusion. He will be missed, but left his footprint."

Eneyo's professional contributions were nationally recognized. In 2016, he received the National Society of Black Engineers Golden Torch Award for Lifetime Achievement in Academia, an honor celebrating his impact as an educator and leader.

A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Schmidt Funeral Home, 1344 West Grand Parkway South in Katy, Texas.
