NiW 2026: Legislative Issues Target Funding Stability and Workforce Expansion

May 6, 2026

NATCA's Senior Counsel for Policy Greg Shoemaker and Senior Political and Legislative Representative Annie Chavez presented the legislative issues briefing today to our advocates in the nation's capital at NATCA in Washington. The session addressed funding stability, modernization, and controller staffing. To resolve chronic understaffing, NATCA advocates for sustained maximum hiring and tower simulator deployment. Efforts also focus on securing an additional $20 billion for the Brand New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) and passing legislation to protect the FAA from government shutdowns. Any facility realignment must prioritize safety, system continuity, and the effect on the workforce.
