Statement of the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Committee on Ethics Regarding Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick

Pursuant to Committee Rule 7, the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Committee on Ethics (Committee) determined to release the following statement:

On January 21, 2026, in accordance with Clause 3 of House Rule XI and Committee Rules 22 and 23, the investigative subcommittee in the matter of Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick transmitted a Statement of Alleged Violations to the Chairman and Ranking Member of the Committee.

Pursuant to Committee Rule 23(a), the Chairman has designated members of the Committee to serve on an adjudicatory subcommittee to determine whether any counts in the Statement of Alleged Violations have been proved by clear and convincing evidence and to make findings of fact.

Chairman Michael Guest will act as Chairman of the adjudicatory subcommittee and Ranking Member Mark DeSaulnier will act as Ranking Member of the adjudicatory subcommittee. Representatives Ashley Hinson, Glenn F. Ivey, Nathaniel Moran, Sylvia R. Garcia, Brad Knott, and Suhas Subramanyam will also serve on the subcommittee. Under Committee Rule 23(a) and House Rule XI, clause 3(m)(1)(B), members who served on the investigative subcommittee may not serve on the adjudicatory subcommittee. Under the Rules, an equal number of Democrats and Republicans serve on adjudicatory subcommittees.

The adjudicatory subcommittee has scheduled a hearing for March 5, 2026.

Pursuant to House Rule XI, clause 3(b)(8)(B) and Committee Rules 7 and 17A, the Committee is making public findings of the Office of Congressional Conduct in the matter referred to the Committee on May 29, 2024, and the Statement of Alleged Violations transmitted to the Committee on January 21, 2026.
