Mayor Bass, Rick Caruso Welcome Reopening of Palisades Village as Important Sign of Hope in Ongoing Palisades Recovery

LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass and business leader Rick Caruso today marked the reopening of Palisades Village, a milestone in the community's ongoing recovery. Palisades Village is set to officially open to the public tomorrow, August 15, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by a full day of entertainment, special events, and family activities. The City and Caruso partnered to fast-track improvements to sidewalks and street trees at no cost to taxpayers.

"The reopening of Palisades Village is a critical milestone in the recovery of Pacific Palisades," said Mayor Bass. "It is imperative that residents have places to eat, shop, and come together so that they do not have to leave their community. Rick Caruso was committed to rebuilding this flagship commercial landmark from the start and returning it to Palisadians. I thank Rick for his partnership with the City and his dedication to getting this done for a community that has been through so much loss. This is an important sign of hope."

"A thriving community depends on strong local businesses and vibrant gathering places, and bringing them back is essential to restoring the character and future of the Pacific Palisades," said Rick Caruso. "Public private partnerships are key to bringing back the Palisades and can be an essential tool for revitalizing the entire city. By working closely with Mayor Bass, Councilmember Park, and the whole City family, we were able to make major investments in public spaces and infrastructure while minimizing taxpayer costs and moving at the quick pace Angelenos deserve and expect."

The Mayor's Office and City departments worked with Rick Caruso and the Palisades Village team to repair roads, paint crosswalks and curbs, and fix damaged streetlights to support the reopening. Caruso invested millions of dollars into these improvements on and near Sunset Boulevard. Additionally, the Board of Public Works unanimously approved the Pacific Palisades Streetscape and Beautification Project, advancing sidewalk repairs, tree replanting, landscaping, and lighting improvements to support the Village's continued recovery and revitalization.

Mayor Bass, Rick Caruso, LA Strong Sports, and other key partners have also worked closely together through a public-private partnership to fund, redesign, and rebuild the Palisades Recreation Center, which was largely destroyed in the Palisades Fire and previously served as a community hub for Palisadians and others across the Westside. The Recreation Center project has passed multiple major milestones in the last several months, including funding for the multi-million dollar project, finalizing agreements, onboarding construction partners, and undergoing site clearance in advance of an imminent groundbreaking. Construction is scheduled to begin in early September.

The reopening of Palisades Village symbolizes momentum across the community. Pali High, Paul Revere Middle, Marquez Elementary, and Calvary Schools have returned to campus, businesses continue to reopen, and thousands of rebuilding permits have been issued. Palisades Village will also resume recurring community programming, including the return of the Pacific Palisades Farmers Market, weekly Kids Club activities, Mahjong and Rummikub socials, Cars & Coffee gatherings, live weekend entertainment, and a monthly Giving Tuesday initiative benefiting local charities.
