Mayor Monroe Nichols and the Tulsa City Council have proclaimed April as "Financial Literacy Month" in the city of Tulsa, joining the national annual Financial Literacy Month.

Wednesday's proclamation inside the Tulsa Council Chambers highlights the importance of raising public awareness on the importance of financial literacy and resources available to protect and empower individuals about their finances.

In celebration of Financial Literacy Month, the City's Office of Financial Empowerment and Community Wealth is hosting the following events:

Wednesday, April 8

  • Financial Literacy 101 (Closed Event)
  • A financial education session for high school students in partnership with Tulsa Public Schools, focused on building foundational money management skills and real-world financial awareness.
  • Street School, 1135 S. Yale Ave.

Wednesday, April 15, 6-7:30 p.m.

  • Navigating Student Loans
  • A free virtual workshop designed to help students and families understand student loan repayment options and long-term financial planning in partnership with Tulsa Higher Ed Consortium and Protect Borrowers.
  • Virtual Event via Zoom | REGISTER

Thursday, May 7, 6-8 p.m.

  • Financial and Neighborhood Resource Fair
  • A community-focused event connecting residents with trusted organizations, City departments, and financial institutions. The event includes free food, giveaways, car seats and installation support from Emergency Infant Services, and on-site financial counselling through the Financial Empowerment Center.
  • Rudisill Regional Library, 1520 N. Hartford Ave.

"The Office of Financial Empowerment and Community Wealth is committed to improving the financial resilience and stability of Tulsans by providing equitable access to financial counseling and other essential financial services," said Amber Guipttons, the City's Director of the Office of Financial Empowerment and Community Wealth. "Through our partners and financial empowerment centers, we have served over 8,100 residents since 2020."
