2026 Independence Day observance, information from City of Norman

June 16, 2026

City of Norman Administrative Offices will be closed 7/3/26 in observance of the Independence Day Holiday. See details on certain City operations outlined below.

Residents are kindly reminded that personal fireworks are prohibited in the City of Norman and can cause serious injury and property loss. Residents are encouraged to observe professional, permitted displays while celebrating the holiday.

Sanitation Division

Sanitation services, including recycling and commercial pickup, will be on regular schedule on 7/3/26. The Compost Facility and the Transfer Station will be open regular hours on 7/3/26 and 7/4/26.

  • The Compost Facility located at 398 Bratcher Miner Road is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday; and 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
  • The Transfer Station located at 3901 S. Chautauqua, is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Parks and Recreation

The following facilities will be closed on 7/3/26:

  • The Young Family Athletic Center
  • Little Axe Community Center
  • 12th Avenue Recreation

Holiday information and hours for Westwood Park amenities include the following:

  • Westwood Golf Course (2400 Westport Drive): The course will be closed from 7/3/26 to 7/5/26 for the Westwood Invitational - Oklahoma's oldest and largest amateur stroke play golf tournament.
  • Westwood Tennis Center (2420 Westport Drive): Open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on 7/3/26 and closed on 7/4/26.
  • Westwood Family Aquatic Center (1017 Fairway Drive): Open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. (or open at noon for season passholders) on 7/3/26; and open from noon to 6 p.m. on 7/4/26 for the Red, White and Blue Swim.

Celebrate the holiday with an expanded lineup of community events coordinated through the Department of Parks and Recreation beginning July 1!

Norman Police Department

Norman Animal Welfare will be closed on 7/3/26 and then will be open on 7/4/26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
