On August 30, 2026, at approximately 4:23 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to several 911 calls made to check the wellbeing of a man in the 600 block of McMeans Avenue East. Reports indicated he was walking up and down the street in an erratic manner and was removing his clothing. One of the calls was made by the man himself and a woman who indicated they were experiencing adverse effects of drug consumption.

At 4:31 a.m., another 911 call was made by a nearby resident, who reported that a man had broken into his home and assaulted him. After a period of time, the man left the residence.

General Patrol officers in the area located the man who was naked and refused to comply with the officers' verbal directions and he fled. Police chased after him. A use of force encounter took place in which a Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) was deployed, and he was taken into custody.

Police requested an ambulance as he was displaying signs of an agitated chaotic event. The man became unresponsive and officers began CPR until emergency personnel arrived. The 42-year-old man was transported to hospital in critical condition where he was pronounced deceased.

A police member received a minor injury to their leg during the use of force encounter.
