UW Libraries Upgrades New York Times Access to Include Games, Cooking, Wirecutter and The Athletic

University of Wyoming Libraries has upgraded its New York Times (NYT) subscription to the All Access package, expanding the digital content available to students, faculty and staff at UW and Wyoming's community colleges.

In addition to full digital access to news via www.nytimes.com and the NYT app, the upgraded subscription now includes Games, Cooking, Wirecutter and The Athletic. Access is provided through a variety of NYT apps.

The All Access package includes:

-- News: Global reporting, analysis and cultural commentary that deepen students' understanding of the world.

-- Games: Word, visual and number games from The Crossword to Wordle and Spelling Bee, that build problem-solving skills, provide a mental break and delight solvers.

-- Cooking: A digital cookbook and cooking guide that supports students' total wellness and kitchen confidence.

-- Wirecutter: Independent product recommendations and reviews based on real-world testing, helping students choose products confidently and feel empowered as consumers.

-- The Athletic: In-depth, personalized sports coverage that can foster media literacy on a subject that students are passionate about.

"We are excited to be able to provide All Access to the New York Times for the added value these additions bring to students, faculty and campus communities," says Shannon Smith, chair of collection management at UW Libraries. "In particular, their offerings of Wirecutter and Cooking enrich our library resources related to financial and consumer topics."

UW and Wyoming community college members can find activation instructions and information on updating existing subscriptions at https://uwyo.libguides.com/newspapers.

The NYT joins several other newspapers available through UW Libraries, including The Wall Street Journal (which also includes Wyoming community colleges) and Bloomberg.

UW Libraries also offers the Wyoming Digital Newspaper Collection at WyomingNewspapers.org, a partnership between UW Libraries and the Wyoming State Library that provides access to the state's historical newspapers. The site has attracted more than 22,000 users, including historians, genealogists, students and scholars who explore first-person accounts of local news dating back to 1849. The collection includes 386,153 issues comprising 5,691,856 pages.

Nonrestricted content in the collection is in the public domain and available to all users. Restricted content can be obtained through interlibrary loan by contacting a local library.
