HARRISBURG - Members of the Northeast Republican Delegation of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives today are calling on House Democrats to stop with the delays and put the budget on the calendar for all to vote.
"Our state budget is now more than 90 days late and counting. This is absurd. Democrats are in the majority and control what bills are brought to the floor for a vote. While counties, seniors and constituents with physical and intellectual disabilities continue to suffer, House Democrats instead focus on issues of pet custody in the case of divorce, and the constant drum beat to try and strip away our Second Amendment rights.
"Months ago, the Pennsylvania Senate advanced a commonsense, level-spending budget that represented a responsible starting point and would have allowed money to flow as it should. Democrats are not interested in any negotiations or budget bill that is not of their own drafting. This 'my way or the highway' mentality is not helpful but certainly hurtful to our citizens.
"Instead of chasing presidential aspirations, focusing on partisan national news headlines or catching a football game in Ireland, our governor should be leading and holding his party accountable. He needs to stop thinking about his next political career move and focus on what should be the priority - the citizens of Pennsylvania.
"Our message to Democrats is simple: Do your job, stop with the delays and stop sowing the seeds of chaos. It's time to end this political theater and pass a fair, balanced and responsible budget.
"Republicans continue to be the responsible party. We are fighting for a fair, balanced and responsible budget that meets the needs of our citizens while respecting the taxpayers who fund it."
