Prime Minister of Hungary

Facebook Statement by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán

Even though it's Holy Saturday, we still have work to do today. We've been in consultations with Robert Fico, because the situation in Europe is critical. A severe energy crisis is looming, and it's accelerating with each passing day. The European economy is threatened by energy shortages and resulting price rises. The danger is imminent, and the only way to avert this looming threat is for the European Union to replenish its oil and gas reserves from every possible direction, from every possible source, in the greatest possible quantities, and as rapidly as possible. Every single day counts. That is why we demand that Brussels suspend the sanctions and restrictions imposed on Russian energy with immediate effect. Brussels must force President Zelenskyy to open the Druzhba oil pipeline with immediate effect. And the plans proposing that we disconnect ourselves from Russian energy and switch to Brussels' energy policy - which is more expensive, and unaffordable for families - must be rejected and discarded. The Tisza Party's energy transition plan should be scrapped, because today Hungary needs stability and security.
