ECU School of Theatre and Dance gears up for Loessin Playhouse opener, announces fall season, new Uncharted Series

GREENVILLE, N.C. (9/24/2026) - East Carolina University's School of Theatre and Dance students return to the stage this fall as the school announces the fall Loessin Playhouse and new Uncharted Series performances.

"From beloved classics to world premieres, from musical theater to dance, the 65th season of the ECU/Loessin Playhouse offers something for every audience member," said School of Theatre and Dance Director Kitt Lavoie. "This season, we are also delighted to welcome audiences behind the scenes of the creative process with the Uncharted Series - a collection of new dance works and staged readings of new plays in an intimate setting, often followed by discussions with the creators."

ECU/Loessin Playhouse performances are at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at McGinnis Auditorium, unless otherwise noted. Find individual and season tickets online through the Central Ticket Office.

• On stage now through Sunday - "Godspell," a joyful musical that retells stories from the Gospel of Matthew using modern music, humor and ensemble storytelling. Performers explore themes of community, kindness and forgiveness through parables, songs and improvisation.
• 21-25 - Celebrate the Halloween season with the legendary "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein." In David Catlin's haunting adaptation, the ambitious Victor Frankenstein unlocks the secret of creation, only to recoil from the creature he brings into the world. What unfolds is a visceral and poetic tale of obsession, loss and the desperate need for connection.
• 7-8 - Join ECU's talented dance students and dancers from area studios for exciting new dance works in "Pulse." Performances will take place at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, all at Wright Auditorium.
• 18-22 - Check out the world premiere romantic comedy, "Randi & Roxanne," by Rachel Graf Evans. It follows Randi, a shy transfer student and secret poet who's hopelessly in love with her best friend, Roxanne. When Kristy, the new star of the softball team, asks Randi for help wooing Roxanne, Randi must decide whether to hide her feelings or finally tell the truth.

The Uncharted Series kicked off Sept. 12 with a staged reading of the new play "Firehawks" by Emily Bohannon. The play is inspired by the real story of young women who set fires at North Carolina reformatory Samarcand Manor while they were incarcerated there in 1931.

Two performances remain this fall. Tickets are $12 for general admission and $7 for students, and performances take place in the Archie Burnette Studio Theatre at the Messick Theatre Arts Center.
