The Safe Block's program is pleased to share an upcoming contracting opportunity as part of our Byrne grant funded efforts to implement place-based interventions to gun violence in the Eliot, Powellhurst-Gilbert, and Hazelwood neighborhoods. As part of the $1.1 million of funding for these placemaking initiatives, we have allocated $170,000 towards a Sidewalk Art project to install art in gun violence hot spots. Public art is a key part of our toolkit to implement non-standard improvements in public spaces to contribute to a sense of place. The intent is to turn the sidewalk into the look and feel of a park with art that invokes feelings of joy, physical movement, and human interaction.

We are looking for a contractor to lead community visioning sessions to identify key community art concepts, develop sidewalk art stencils, and install sidewalk art at 20-45 locations identified by the City. The contractor will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of work including stencil creation, securing permits from PBOT, required notifications, site prep, and installation. This is a price agreement contract where contractor will be asked to submit bids on specific areas of work.

The request for proposals is expected go live in late 2026 and anticipated to be open between 3-7 weeks.
